Making Things Worse

by digby

Who could have ever imagined that electing a criminal tea partier to the highest office in the state would cause problems?

Rick Scott, the conservative Republican billionaire who plucked the governor’s job from the party establishment in November with $73 million of his own money and the backing of the Tea Party, vowed during his campaign to run the troubled state like a corporate chief executive (which he was) and not a politician (which he proudly says he is not).

And now it has become a problem, some of his fellow Republicans say.

“The governor doesn’t understand there is a State Constitution and that we have three branches of government,” said State Senator Mike Fasano, a Republican from New Port Richey who upset Mr. Scott with rough handling of his staff during a testy committee hearing. “They are talking about the attitude that he is still the C.E.O. of his former health care corporation, and that is not going to work in this state, in Tallahassee, in my district. The people believe in three branches of government.”

Republican lawmakers in Florida were hoping for a smoother transition. Instead, they say, they got top-down management from a political novice.

With the Legislature convening on Tuesday for a potentially arduous two-month session that is bound to usher in major cuts in spending and jobs and radical changes to education, pensions, unemployment benefits and Medicaid, the governor will be tested on a broader, more public scale. Florida faces an estimated $3.6 billion budget shortfall this year and has a stubborn 12 percent unemployment rate.

“I think there have been some understandable growing pains because government doesn’t function like a corporation,” said Speaker Dean Cannon, a Republican from central Florida, taking a more measured tone than Mr. Fasano.

Read the whole article. Basically, he believes that he is now a monarch and can do anything he wants without any input from the other electe4d leaders. And here's a little taste of what he plans to do:

Mr. Scott is single-minded in his plans to shake up Florida and create jobs. He wants to create a business-friendly environment, chop up the bureaucracy, peel away regulations and hand out $1.7 billion in tax cuts for corporations and property owners in the first year of his budget. Privatizing Medicaid and prisons is also high on the agenda.

In his budget proposal, Mr. Scott is seeking to eliminate more than 8,500 state jobs, including in the Corrections and Health Departments. His budget for the state’s already lean public schools is $1.75 billion less than this year’s, mostly because federal stimulus money dried up.

And he wants to cut costs in Florida’s pension fund by requiring more than 600,000 government workers, including police officers, teachers, firefighters, judges and retirees, to contribute 5 percent to their retirement. New employees would use plans similar to a 401(k). This has angered state workers, who have gone without a general raise since 2006. They plan large demonstrations around Florida on Tuesday.

Maybe this is what Floridians wanted, but I doubt it. On the other hand, it's what they should have expected. Rick Scott may be the looniest, most dishonest, powerful elected official in the country. And it was easy to see that going in. Stay tuned.

Hoover is an economic god to you

And McCarthy was your hero

And Obama caused the recession

And doubling the DoD budget in recent years doesn't appear on your radar as you bemoan and whine about even the littlest of taxes.

And redirecting ANY money from wasteful programs to health reform, or instead washing it down the drain in a vast sea of DoD related spending and foreign wars is the death of us all.

And having the lowest taxes in the western world after we gave the wealthiest even more money (recent tax deal) to send overseas is just not good enough.

And you are smarter than Dr Reich and about 99% of economists who have concluded that hoover indeed was an economic dolt and ushered in the Great Depression and that FDR/WWII ended it.

You are naive to think the US will thrive in a laissez faire business model where taxes and gvmt regulation are a historic remnant. There's no historic precedent for your belief, and indeed, everytime we or anyone else have tried that, we have been predated on by the wealthy elite and suffered terrible economic shocks. And that includes the Great Depression, the Great Recession, and several shocks in the 19th century that few Americans have ever heard about except in vague terms of Robber Barons and the like.

Every time we lower taxes on the wealthy, almost half that money disappears into overseas investments or tax shelters. That's the giant sucking sound you hear, and msoja mistakenly believed was ACA.

I'm all for low taxes, but not for gutting them mindlessly. Clinton era high end tax rates were reasonable and helped balance the budget, and anything lower IMO is destructive to our economy and std of living.

I'm all for for smart elimination of regulation, but not for mindless gutting them.

As a 12 year USAF vet, I'm all for strong defense, but not the current wars and not the doubling of the DoD budget as BushJr did.

Evaluating whether a program has a NET negative or positive effect on the economy involves a fair assessment of all variables, something freeloaders like you aren't capable of doing. Some of the variables you enumerate would indeed be problems, except that you forgot to mention the variables in the package that outweigh your negatives. For example, ensuring that 32 million people have affordable care and won't go bankrupt or die are positive factors that HELP the economy and outweigh your variables.

And your blatant hatred of the CBO process also shows you are a wingnut whose opinions are distorted by ideology.

You fail to cite that GOP predictions are even worse than CBO predictions, and that the main reason CBO predictions are often wrong is that the underlying assumptions of those predictions change as a result of partisan actions by later Congresses and admins.

I am no longer a Republican because I came to learn that they engage in the biggest lies of all. You are the kind of propagandist that caused me to abandon that party--the party of debt, fear and big lies

Making Money Scams

On Monday night, I watched my initially, The Very last Word host Lawrence O’Donnell.
When O’Donnell laudably tried using to emphasis the audience’s attention onand hopefully previous, Charlie Sheen trainwreck interview, courtesy of the tragic undertow that threatens to pull Sheen below for great, I was overtaken, not by the pulling around the thread, and therefore the voracious audience he serves. It didn’t make me sad, it designed me angry.

Relating to celebrities, we could be considered a heartless region, basking within their misfortunes like nude sunbathers at Schadenfreude Seaside. The impulse is understandable, to some diploma. It may be grating to listen to complaints from many people who enjoy privileges that many of us cannot even consider. In case you cannot muster up some compassion for Charlie Sheen, who can make alot more money to get a day’s deliver the results than the majority of us will make inside a decade’s time, I guess I cannot blame you.

With the quick tempo of events on the net as well as info revolution sparked through the Online, it is pretty effortless for your technology business to believe it is completely unique: regularly breaking new ground and undertaking details that no one has ever completed before.

But you'll find other types of home business that have by now undergone many of the similar radical shifts, and also have just as awesome a stake with the future.

Get healthcare, for example.

We generally suppose of it like a huge, lumbering beast, but in reality, medicine has undergone a sequence of revolutions from the previous 200 many years which have been not less than equal to people we see in engineering and details.

Much less understandable, but still in the norms of human nature, will be the impulse to rubberneck, to slow down and take a look at the carnage of Charlie spectacle of Sheen’s unraveling, but for the blithe interviewer Sheen’s lifestyle as we pass it in the right lane of our every day lives. To get sincere, it can be challenging for individuals to discern the distinction involving a run-of-the-mill awareness whore, and an honest-to-goodness, circling the drain tragedy-to-be. On its very own merits, a quote like “I Am On a Drug. It’s Named Charlie Sheen” is sheer genius, and we cannot all be expected to get the total measure of someone’s existence each and every time we hear a thing funny.

Quickly ahead to 2011 and I am trying to examine suggests of getting a bit more business-like about my hobbies (generally songs). Through the end of January I had manned up and began to promote my weblogs. I had designed several unique weblogs, which were contributed to by mates and colleagues. I promoted these pursuits because of Facebook and Twitter.

Second: the small abomination that the Gang of 5 about the Supream Court gave us a year or so in the past (Citizens Inebriated) truly consists of a touch bouncing betty of its personal that can highly very well go off within the faces of Govs Wanker, Sacitch, Krysty, and J.O. Daniels. Due to the fact this ruling prolonged the idea of “personhood” to equally corporations and unions, to consider to deny them any best to operate within just the legal framework that they have been organized underneath deprives these “persons” with the freedoms of speech, association and motion. Which means (the moment again, quoting law college educated family members) that either the courts really have to uphold these rights for the unions (as person “persons” as assured from the Federal (and most state) constitutions, or they've to declare that these attempts at stripping or limiting union rights should apply to key companies, also.

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is famous for having the world's largest collection of Vincent Van Gogh's drawings and paintings. But it has another reason to draw our attention today - scammers have managed to compromise its official Facebook presence.

Regular readers of Sophos's Naked Security site will be only too familiar with the survey scams that plague Facebook, spread usually via rogue applications that have used social engineering to trick innocent users into giving their permission to post to their walls.

What may surprise some is that this isn't just a problem for your personal Facebook pages - it can also affect fan pages which you may administer (for instance, pages which represent your organisation or company).

In other words, if your personal page falls foul of a scam then the bad guys can also automatically post messages to your company Facebook page too - potentially impacting the thousands of fans you have been carefully nurturing.

Clicking on the link takes you to a version of the money-making "I was logged into Facebook for XXXX hours in 2010" scam that we have warned Facebook users about before.

The Van Gogh Museum has posted an update on its page, apologising for the spam messages and asking how it can prevent the abuse happening again:

We're so sorry about the automatic spam messages that seem to keep on appearing on this page about the hours we've been loged on to facebook. We did not post these! Does anyone know how we could prevent this happening again?

Normally, it's pretty straight forward to clean-up your Facebook account after being hit by a survey scam. I described how to do it in a video I made late last year, where I show how you can clean out rogue applications that you have mistakenly allowed to access your Facebook profile.

I would suggest that all of the Van Gogh Museum's Facebook administrators follow that advice and make sure that they have locked down their Facebook profiles appropriately and chosen hard-to-crack unique passwords.

But there may be another issue.

The scammers have posted messages to the Van Gogh Museum's Facebook page via the Mobile Uploads photo gallery.

That's the facility Facebook supplies to post status updates to your Facebook page remotely, just by sending an email to a unique address (every Facebook account has a specific email address for this purpose).

If someone was able to work out the museum's unique email address for uploading mobile photographs then they would be able to post photos (and links to their survey scams) with ease.

It may, therefore, be time for the museum to refresh its mobile upload email address. By the way, it's not clear to me if you can tell Facebook to not allow any email address to be used for mobile uploads, but I would imagine that many institutions would find the permanent blocking of the feature attractive.

There's a lesson here for everybody, of course. If your company runs a Facebook page then you and your administrators will need to be on their toes to prevent harm being done if scammers manage to compromise it.

Learn more about the different threats which Facebook users and companies face by joining the Sophos page on Facebook.

Hat tip: Thanks to Naked Security reader Aniko for informing us about the incident involving the Van Gogh museum.

We all know there are risks to storing personal information online, yet few of us take even the most basic precautions, like choosing unique and hard-to-guess passwords.

On Thursday, Google will introduce a tool, known as two-step verification, that will make Google accounts more secure and less vulnerable to hackers and phishing scams.

Google users who choose to use the tool will still enter their passwords to get to Google accounts like Gmail, Picasa and Google Docs. But they will also need to enter a second verification code, generated on the spot for one-time use and sent to their cellphone through a text message, phone call or app.

“Passwords tend to be the weakest link in the process of securing a Google account,” said Nishit Shah, a product manager for Google security who worked on the project. “We wanted to improve the security of the account in a way that is not just something the user knows, the password, but what the user has, the phone.”

The threat is a real one. For instance, a hacker reached personal and business information about Twitter and its executives by breaking into e-mail accounts. And when you get those e-mails that say friends are abroad and in dire need of money, a phishing scheme is to blame.

Google’s new operating system for laptops, called Chrome OS, stores all of a user’s information in the cloud and none of it on a computer hard drive, making strong security even more important.

Businesses have used tools that require several passwords to access company systems for years, and Google started offering its business customers the service last year. But consumer Web sites haven’t done it, in part because the security hardware that companies give employees, like key fobs, is expensive and inconvenient.

Google has tried to overcome that by delivering the codes on cellphones, something most people have with them all the time. Users can provide a backup phone number in case their phone is dead or lost, and receive a list of 10 backup codes to use if they can’t get the codes via phone. And people who don’t want to enter two codes each time they access their Google account can tell Google to remember the code for 30 days.

Google users can find a link to set up two-step verification on the account settings page.

Making Money Without

Ha. As if Walker has caused homelessness. (The coinage presumably alludes to "Hooverville.")

This protest is NOT about poor people. It's about people with good jobs, wanting to preserve the high quality of what they've been able to acquire for themselves. Now, I do think those who are sleeping on the floor of the Capitol rotunda and outside on the frozen ground are young people who don't themselves have good jobs. It's interesting what these kids are putting themselves through for others, who are, presumably, better off than they are. I took this picture, yesterday, of the outdoor sleeping setup:

It had gone down to 11° the night before. Note the underlayer of Ian's Pizza boxes. There is a lot of free food. Ian's, by the way, is doing some kickass branding (without losing any money):

On Monday afternoon, [store manager Staci] Fritz guesstimated that Ian's had delivered upwards of 35,000 slices of pizzas in the last week, all paid for by donations...

Fritz says that while Ian's is still making deliveries and taking donations, it has been very careful to cut off the amount of money it takes in one day. "What if somebody gives a load of money and then suddenly this whole thing is over and we can't deliver anymore? We can't let anyone pay for what we can't promise to deliver."
Keeping it honest... which is good for branding too, of course. They're not just raking in donations without accounting for it all with free pizza delivered to protesters.

Madison has a long tradition of its bars and restaurants being sucked into the fervent political activity of the times, such as the Nitty Gritty restaurant and bar's role as the meeting place for the activists who bombed the university's Sterling Hall in 1970.
Well, hell... why bring that up? Things have been really peaceful, by and large — to an amazing degree, considering the difficulty of keeping a large, diverse crowd energized enough to look like a good demonstration without tipping any individual over the edge into something ugly, even as the days wear on and on.

It’s nearing two weeks since unions and their cohorts on the Left have thrown a nationwide fit over Scott Walker’s solution to what is ailing Wisconsin. Unions and Democrats have made Wisconsin their cause célèbre by deploying OFA astroturf, the big talking heads, as well as recruiting just about every known Grateful Dead concert attendee on their mailing lists into Wisconsin. Meanwhile, Democratic state senators (now humorously known as fleebaggers) comically continue to hold the state hostage over an issue of union power, politics and money—nothing more and nothing less.

Despite unions’ long hatred of Scott Walker, the new governor is moving to address both the symptoms of the disease and the disease itself—the public-sector union scheme that has molested Wisconsin’s taxpayers and their children by gaming the system. Unions like Wisconsin’s teachers’ union [WEAC] (which was Wisconsin’s biggest-spending lobby in 2009) have been extraordinarily adept at fixing the system through spending millions to elect politicians who, in turn, reward the unions at the expense of the taxpayers.

Now, in response to Walker’s proposals, the Left has gone overboard in their attempt to protect their stranglehold on Wisconsin taxpayers. Even though unions have made clear that their fight is not about their wages or benefits (they’ve offered concessions), they’ve made the fight all about their “right to be unionized” and the fictitious right to “collective bargaining”—which makes their cause even more despotic.

In making Madison into something reminiscent of the spectacle of the 1960s, unions, Democrats and their liberal cohorts are attempting to make the Wisconsin union battle into a civil rights battle, when it is not.  In fact, the Wisconsin fight, when compared to private-sector negotiations is about: 1) the Scope of Bargaining, 2) Union “Income” Security [Right-to-Work vs. Forced Dues], 3) whether Wisconsin should be the unions’ dues collection agency [payroll deduction of dues], and 4) whether public-sector unions should be ‘recertified’ by holding elections every year.

Contrary to the Left’s hyperbole, Scott Walker’s proposals do nothing to eliminate public-sector workers’ right to association, assemblage, or to petition their government. Even pretending that it is a “rights” issue is a mistake. There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that requires a government to engage in a back and forth negotiation with a collective of workers. In a poignant piece entitled There is No Right to Collective Bargaining, Public Service Research Foundation President David Denholm summarizes the problem with the unions’ argument, stating:

A law granting public-sector unions monopoly bargaining privileges gives a union, a special interest group, two bites at the apple. First, it uses its political clout to elect public officials. Then it negotiates with the very same officials.

When you consider that between 70 and 80 percent of all local government expenditures are personnel costs, you begin to get an idea of the magnitude of the power such laws give unions.

Not only is there no right to collective bargaining in public employment, it is wrong. Collective bargaining distorts and corrupts democratic government.

Collective bargaining is a process for employer-employee relations that was designed for the private sector. This process served as the model for the development of public-sector collective bargaining without taking into account the fundamental differences between the two sectors.

As Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour explains:

“When they have collective bargaining in Wisconsin, on one side of the table there’s state employee unions or the local employee unions. On the other side of the table are politicians that they paid for the election of those politicians,” Barbour said. “Now, who represents the taxpayers in that negotiation? Well, actually, nobody.”

Even Newsweek’s Evan Thomas noted on Sunday [via Newsbusters]:

The Democrats really depend on these public employee unions in a lot of states for their support and for their political muscle, and public employee unions got a problem here. I want to distinguish between unions and public employee unions. Unions obviously are critical, but in the public sector, public employee unions have a pretty easy time getting a lot of benefits because nobody’s really pushing back all that hard.

Admittedly, Walker’s proposals are a threat to unions in several ways. As Walker’s proposals determine:

  1. The extent of what unions will be allowed to bargain about. Walker’s proposal limits bargaining to wages only, effectively eliminating the WEA Trust monopoly which gets its money from local school boards and runs it through a union-run insurance company.

  2. Whether unions can have workers fired for not paying union dues. According to its most recent financial record on file, WEAC (the teachers’ union) raked in over $25 million in 2009. Walker’s proposal makes paying union dues voluntary, as opposed to mandatory. This goes to the lifeblood of any union. If, for example, 20% of those teachers who are currently required to pay union dues as a condition of employment opt out, WEAC could lose up to $5 million a year in revenue. [It is noteworthy that, in the private-sector, the SEIU will be conducting its second strike at a Pennsylvania medical center over the issue of mandatory dues.]

  3. Whether the state will continue being the unions’ dues collector. Walker’s proposal eliminates’ the employers’ payroll deduction of union dues. Again, while it is commonplace for unions to negotiate payroll deduction, there is nothing anywhere (in private or public sector law) that states that it is an employers’ duty to be a union’s collection agency.

  4. Whether the unions will have to ‘re-certify’ every year to maintain representational status. Of all of Walker’s proposals, this seems to be one that could be considered a ‘throw away’ item in negotiations. If Walker’s other proposals get enacted, and union-represented employees feel that the union is worthless, they can initiate an election themselves every calendar under existing law [see Section 111.83(5)[h]] .

Given the ability of the unions and their co-conspirators on the Left to hijack the issue in Wisconsin over these last two weeks, there appears no way for a “win-win” compromise to be worked out. One side or the other will win. Either the unions and the Left, or taxpayers will prevail.

If the Left wins, all chances of reforming public-sector unions will be tossed aside by weak-kneed Republicans who will then be held hostage by temper-tantrum throwing Democrats (see Indiana for example). In addition, the Left has already painted the entire Republicans party with bulls eyes and has for years. Therefore, there is no reason for GOP governors like Scott Walker, Chris Christie and John Kasich to back down, which puts the Left in an untenable situation as well.

In the meantime, the disciples of Saul Alinsky will continue their prattle, attempting to convince America that the Battle of Wisconsin is something more than a fight over union power, politics and money…even though it’s not.

“Federal securities laws do not become optional when the news is negative,”

Really? How quaint.

Haven’t we spent the last two years learning that there are simply no applicable laws when the lords of finance are inconvenienced. None.

This Fannie/Freddie business is just a furtherance of “pretend and extend”. Wait long enough, do little enough, and the defaults will eventually dry up. Everyone who matters will be made whole, or near enough, and the annoying little people will be scraped-off in the process (home owners, pension funds, etc.). Problem solved, privatization ho! Personal responsibility and moral probity restored in our market-based, job-creating, moral-hazard-free utopia.

The only fly in the ointment at this point are a few pesky court cases from investors (who might matter, but are no match for Goldman) and local jurisdictions whose laws and budgets were savaged by MERS. Luckily, we have the Supreme Court we need to ensure all of that comes to nothing. By the time binding decisions are reached, it won’t matter anyhow.

It’s starting to look just like civil liberties under Obama. By embracing the policies of their predecessors, Democrats are enshrining and mainstreaming the worst of an extreme Randian ideology ultimately recanted by none other than its high priest, Alan Greenspan. Even though their clothes are now long-gone, the proud, naked emperors of America walk tall. Once you own the government and the media, why the hell not?

Making Money Internet

I am looking at a picture snapped this week in Tahrir Square, the now-famous stretch of land in central Cairo where so many hopes and dreams of a new Egypt have been voiced over the last 12 days. In the picture, a young man, maybe 20-years-old, is holding a simple handwritten sign that reads: "Dear Tourists, Don't Leave. We'll Protect You."

It's an arresting image that is already ricocheting around the Internet. And not only because the sign-holder is so young, but because of what it captures: a plea from the next generation to the international community not to abandon their economy. This sign is also a proclamation: we are not going to let our country fail, if you will only trust us.

The simple request begs a question. What moves are the leaders of the Arab nations and their private sector partners making to ensure that these brave citizens will get the support they need? In a world where the global business community is the new consensus-builder and FDI is the modern credibility index, it's time to act.

It is an understatement to say that the Arab World is amidst radical change -- political, economic, and social. We still don't know where the unprecedented popular uprisings started in Tunisia, followed by Egypt, and now posing a risk of the 'domino effect' in Yemen, Sudan, Jordan and possibly even Gulf states, will ultimately lead.

But what I do know, having organized dozens of high-level gatherings in the MENA region including the Middle East Peace Summit in Jordan and multiple summits in Sharm El Sheikh, is that there is an equally unprecedented opportunity right now for the region to come together in an inclusive way to make changes that will have an impact on many generations to follow.

As the demonstrators across the region have shown, the world is impatient for change. There is no more time to think and talk; it is time to act. And the most important question being faced across the Middle East today is not who will lead, or which party will rule -- but how will we survive?

Tourism revenues have bottomed out, with some estimates stating that Egypt has already lost $1 billion in tourism dollars since January 25th, and this represents but one strategic sector. Investors are fearful and hesitant to inject any more money into the market until it demonstrates political and economic stability.

The time is now to bring together all parties that will contribute to the future of the Arab World, including political and business leaders, academics, social scientists, constitutional law specialists, youth leaders and women's groups, as well as the foreign investment community. While it is clear that the Arab World must carve its own path, in this globalized world, it is essential to now involve friends that can help provide support them as they navigate to a new era.

And unlike previous summits, this is not an occasion for speeches and platitudes. It's time for to roll up sleeves, bring in the very best strategic advisors, and create a special fund to back an immediate action plan that supports political reform with the help of great institutions, promotes economic reform based on informed analysis and expertise, and initiates social reforms with the supports of worldwide experts and strategic firms.

The global marketplace needs confidence in the region, and there is still much to believe in. In their DNA, we see a deep reservoir of talent, education, natural resources, and open borders to FDI. But even more -- as the young man in the picture demonstrates -- the people are the greatest asset. There is a global culture present in the Arab world populated by citizens that are worldly, informed, speak perfect English and know what's happening around the world, from Brazil to China.

We have a responsibility to these people. Don't Leave. Come together.

Richard Attias, Chairman of the Columbia University Center on Capitalism and Society and creator of the New York Forum, has spent his career developing some of the most influential gatherings of global leaders in the last 20 years.

From the Media Decoder blog at the New York Times on Saturday:

On Thursday, NBC’s news division staged an elaborate presentation for advertisers, seeking to sell commercial time in NBC’s news programs over the next year. All the members of MSNBC’s prime-time lineup spoke at the lunch with one exception: Keith Olbermann, the network’s biggest star.

For the last several weeks, Mr. Olbermann and the network have been in negotiations to end his successful run on MSNBC, according to executives involved in the talks who requested anonymity because the talks were confidential. ... Friday’s separation agreement between MSNBC and Mr. Olbermann includes restrictions on when he can next lead a television show and when he can give interviews about the decision to end his association with the news channel.

The executives involved in the discussions confirmed that the deal carries limitations for Mr. Olbermann in terms of when he can next work on television, though he will be able to take a job in radio or on any forum on the Internet. The deal also prohibits the host from commenting publicly on the deal, the executives confirmed. ... None of the executives who discussed the deal would reveal the exact length of the restrictions.
The article quotes free-speech law professor Marvin Ammori as questioning the move and saying via email that "Comcast’s shakedown of NBC has just begun."

Comcast denies any involvement and says it has pledged "not interfere with NBC Universal’s news operations."

So, who you gonna believe — your lying eyes? Or that nice cable provider you send all that money to?

GP

NOTE FROM JOHN: Sure, the exit was planned weeks ago - that's why Keith said Friday night that he was told Friday would be his last show (and making it sound like he was JUST told), and that's why Keith didn't even tell anyone he was leaving until his last show was on the air. None of this sounds like a deal that was worked out weeks ago. Though, note the quote: weeks in the making. You could argue it was months or years in the making, if you want to talk about souring relationships.

And yes, the restrictions on when Olbermann can next go on the air are sickening. I suspect, and hope, NBC/Comcast paid Olbermann millions to keep him off the air. But as consumers, and politically aware Americans, it's disturbing as hell that NBC and Comcast just required one of the top voices of the left, if not its top voice on television, to STFU for the foreseeable future. It only makes the move by NBC and Comcast look all the more political, and worse, partisan.
